KaleidoMonster 1

All 3D models exhibited here are not hand-modeled nor intentionally designed but generated by a single algorithm that is inspired by Kaleidoscope and self-replication.

This project started as a simple experiment in SideFX Houdini. I was curious what would happen if I cut a random geometry in half, mirror copy, rotate it in a random direction, and repeat the process multiple times.

I did expect the geometry to get complex. What I didn’t expect was monsters, lots and lots monsters and this headless bird.

It is pretty amazing how organic and diverse the resulting shapes are even though the algorithm and the input geometries are extremely simple. It seems like I could find any shape from it, but I guess my brain subconsciously recognized life-like shapes. It feels like these monsters were hiding in a different dimension, and I accidentally discovered them.

And, we get this transformation effect by interfering with the main loop.
